Workout Music

Been listening to this song a lot lately. Definitely the best live version I've heard of it. Had I been there during this performance I probably would have run through a brick wall if Bono told me to. Best part is The Edge's rhythm guitar at the 3:42 mark.

Sacrifices

It's winter in Colorado, and obviously certain sacrifices are being made for the good of cycling ... Jenna is clearly letting fashion be damned:

It reminded me of my dad's favorite snow-shoveling or Zoƫ-forgot-her-lunch outfit.

Brady

Jenna recently bought herself a Tom Brady jersey.  I think she's trying to leverage my man-crush on Brady for her own personal gain.

Moonlight Snowshoeing!

Just posting some pictures real quick from last night - we went snow shoeing with our cycling team up at Brainard Lake. It was tons of fun to walk through the snowy trails at night!

Tour of the Gila

Jenna and I are locked, loaded and ready to finally tackle the Tour of the Gila (note: if you want to see other races I plan on doing, use the "Calendar" feature to the right). It's a 5-day stage race in early May that I've always wanted to do. It's a climber's paradise with 2 uphill finishes, a 16-mile TT, a hilly criterium, and plenty more where that comes from! I've done some riding in New Mexico, and it's no picnic. Kevin graciously purchased a new gas guzzler to transport us down to Silver City with a DVD player and plenty of other goodies.

I'm not going to the Gila with any real concrete ambitions, as I know that if I tried to peak for this event the rest of my season would be chopped liver. Getting into some breaks, demonstrating a newfound ability to sprint, and positive sensations on the climbs would all be positive happenings for me at the Gila. Now Jenna, after 6th at Dead Dog, will be going to the Gila with much different objectives for the Women's 3/4 race.

My beast of a teammate, Jeremy, will be aiming to perform very well at the Gila, and I'm hoping to have enough on the climbs to make his life easier.

Can Jeremy tame the Gila Monster?

In other news, I've been working on my weaknesses, and good things are happening in the weight room. We're discovering new muscle groups on a daily basis that I never knew existed (i.e., biceps, etc). Jenna is threatening to oil me up and take pictures for posterity, but I promise you this won't be happening. I'm not in the business of inducing vomiting, though I know about 7 sisters who would like an answer to the question, "Just how high does he shave his legs?"

I'm also excited about our new team clothing, which should be arriving just in time for spring. Can't wait to throw on a long-sleeve skinsuit and rage to the top of Lookout on April 5th.

Door Opens for Cyclocross Revolution

Not sure if it's mandated by the UCI, but it looks like the 2009 USA 'Cross nationals will actually be held in January 2010, inline with the various European national championships.  This opens the door for an extra 3 weeks of races on the local scene, and if recent trends continue, I expect all of those race dates to fill in.  Not good for those of us who can't ride the snow and ice, but if this year proves anything, it's that early December is no sure thing either.

Let the good times roll

So I've decided to give road tubeless a shot.  Being a lighter rider who gets knocked around a fair amount with my fine assortment of bone-rattling aluminum bikes, I stand to benefit a great deal with tubeless clinchers that allow one to run about 15psi less than standard without fear of pinch flats.  The reviews -- Outside, Velonews -- of the wheels have been very positive, and I personally have had a pair of Shimano Dura-Ace wheels that really did feel fast.  On a side note, if you plan on winning an auction in Ebay, it is absolutely essential that you make use of the Countdown feature that allows you to see bids in real time.

Another reason Jenna and I needed to make a wheels purchase is because we've been gradually accumulating frames -- but not wheels -- for quite some time.  In the past few years we've lost a wheel here and a wheel there; and now we're in a full-on hoop crisis.  When you ride 1000 hours a year (Jenna and I combined) you'll find equipment doesn't last as long as you think.  I don't think our wheel-buying days are passed us just yet, either.

With these tubeless clinchers I'm also hopeful that they'll come in handy in 'cross.  I've heard you can run the tubeless cross tires at 30psi, and if that's true then it saves me the hassle of springing for tubulars as well.  Once D-Bone gets me on a new cross race bike, I'll have to see how these tubeless clinchers hold up on grass.

Here we go

The Flying Elvises take on the Bolts this Sunday for the AFC Championship. I'm 2 games away from my hypothetical, non-existent first born being named Tom Bruschi-Koppen-Welker Dancy.

Ahhh... Much Better!

After all the traveling we did late last year, then with the cold weather and snowy roads, I hadn't ridden in a long time. Today we were supposed to do a group ride, but we were getting ready to leave and it was only 20 degrees out, so we wussed out. But around noon it had warmed up to about 35 and was really sunny, so I decided I really had to get a ride in. I rode for 2 hours, and felt so much better afterwards. The last couple of weeks I'd sort of been getting bored and couldn't really figure out why I was getting bummed. It wasn't that I wasn't busy or had nothing to do - work, going to the gym, cooking, taking care of the house, going out on the weekends kept us really busy. But now I realize I really was missing riding! I'll definitely be getting back on the bike more.

Electrical Oddities

Things seem to be falling apart at home.  Last night we were getting some weird power surges (costing me some Xbox glory) and for some reason our battery backup for the computer didn't do the job.  Bringing the computer back to life isn't really going well -- for some reason the motherboard battery is dead yet again.  Throw in some weird IR noise behavior downstairs that keeps shutting off the stereo and it's fair to say all hell is breaking loose.

It's Baaaacck!

Best show on TV is back for its final season ... too bad it's only a 10 episode run.

Finally Joined the Ugg Craze!

Just got a pair of Uggs today, after having to call about 9 places to finally find some classics in my size.

Isaac thinks they're ugly, but I think it's a cute ugly! They're like Crocs - stupid looking, but comfy and cool at the same!

Also just recently put up the wedding photo behind me in the picture.
