Things I'm Thankful For

It goes without saying that I'm most thankful for my absolutely perfect little baby boy. But, I thought I'd also list all the great things that make having Aidan a little easier. I don't know how people did it before!

Honorable mentions:
Bebe au lait nursing cover, Diaper Genie, Vibrating Seat, Swing, Pack'n'play with changing table, Baby Bjorn carrier.

Top Five:

5. Travel System - Stroller/Car Seat/Base

Marie was amazed at how much easier it was to be able to bring Aidan into stores while we were out - no waking him up taking him out of his car seat, or leaving someone in the car with him. The key is having a car seat that clicks into a base (we have one in each car) and also into the stroller.

4. Baby Monitor with Movement Sensor

We didn't sleep at all the first night in the hospital because we just wanted to make sure Aidan kept breathing. Even when we had him sleeping in the bassinet right next to me, I was still nervous. So, at two weeks we moved him to his crib, where we had this monitor. It senses the tiniest movement as the baby breathes, and an alarm goes off if it doesn't detect anything! Makes me sleep much better!

3. Boppy

Makes it so much easier to feed Aidan - I had to buy two so one was always nearby! Also good for propping him up.

2. Medela Pump In Style

I really don't know how women ever went anywhere without having a breastpump - I guess maybe they didn't! Having a pump gives us so much for freedom, and Aidan can still get 100% real milk, all the time! We can go out to dinner, go shopping, etc, and just bring a fresh bottle. I can go to the gym knowing there's plenty of frozen milk if Aidan gets hungry sooner than I expected. And when I go back to work, it'll be a little easier knowing he's still getting the best milk possible.

1. Isaac

I have the best hubby ever! He's so helpful with Aidan, so good with him. I'm lucky he's always been around babies and knows exactly what to do, he loves to hold him and play with him. He takes care of him while I exercise, and he often helps with Aidan's early morning wake time while I'm still dozing. He's a diaper changing pro, and helps get him dressed and ready to go. I try to make it a little easier for him by taking care of all the middle-of-the-night feedings without waking him up. I love you Honey!

Aidan seems a little more like himself today - the last couple of days I think he was going through a growth spurt. He ate and ate and ate, and was a little fussy during the short periods he wasn't eating. He looks bigger to us!

Derrick's New Shirt

What do you get when you mix a black shirt, a red shirt, and a blue sky patch? A Felpe! We all have our Blue Sky Felpes, and I figured Derrick would love one of his own since he's so into bikes right now. He loves to do what his dad does! So, I sewed on the collar, cuffs, and bottom edge, and the patch. Voila! Happy Belated Birthday!

Not much doing

No developmental milestones to report, unless you count whistling.

Got it on camera!

Sequence goes from bottom to top since he rolled away from the camera.

On A Roll

Isaac saw Aidan roll over again from his belly! We got the camera out and he kept trying, but didn't quite make it all the way over. But you can see in the photo he was really pushing off - he's a superstar! :-)

We also had to take some photos in his new outfits - he spit up on the first one (which is why he was naked doing the rolling!)

Fun with Iron-On

Since we had some extra onesies, Aidan needed some more custom gear.

Boulder CX #4

After a less than optimal week of training -- read that, one day on the bike, several days snacking on donuts -- I didn't have too many expectations at this Saturday's race. It's a shame because it had the makings of a course that would suit me.

We had an atrocious starter with "Riders Ready, Set ... Ready, Set ... Go". Several riders false started and I was left boxed in before the race even started. Why, oh why, can't the ACA get one of those fake guns like we had in high school track?

150m from the start a rider hit the deck in front of me and I made a miraculous power-slide and somehow didn't go down. About 10 riders behind me stacked it up though. Despite staying upright I was easily somewhere 30-40th place and easily lost close to a minute less than a lap into the race.

There was only so much I could do with subpar legs, but I steadily worked my way up to the top 20 by the end of the race.

Toward the end of the race I made contact with the magician.

The stutter-bump descent.

The Dancy clan.

Aidan rolled over!

Isaac put Aidan down on his play mat, and he rolled from his belly to his back!! I'm not sure if he could actually do it again anytime soon, but he had no help from us at all. Last week he rolled from his back to his belly on the couch, but there was a slight decline towards me, so that helped. But, it was still enough for Marie and I to look at each other and say "Did he just roll over??"

Fingers 'n' Toes

Just having fun taking photos of my little boy.

Aidan @ One Month

Since Aidan was one month old yesterday, I figured I should provide a little update of what he does these days:
  • Smiles; usually accidentally/unconsciously but sometimes he smiles at us and it seems like he sort of knows what he's doing.
  • Can move himself in the crib a little; we've found him against the edge and lying diagonal in there.
  • Scoots himself forward; if we put him on his belly and put our hands behind his feet, he can push off and move his whole body forward!
  • Grunts; usually just in the morning when we put him back down, but other random times too. Hard to figure out exactly why...
  • Loves to pee/poop when we take off his diaper; he's done that on both changing tables, and also peed in the bath and at the doctor's office!
  • Eats a lot; feeds every 2-3 hours during the day and every 3-4 at night. Last night he did a 5 hour stretch for the first time! Wahoo!
  • Holds his head up; as seen in the photos, he's pretty good at it!
  • Sleeps well; falls asleep easily in his own crib at night and during the day. Usually has extended wake times in the morning and evening, then shorter times throughout the day.

And a little Jenna update:
  • Showered and dressed properly every day!
  • Exercised every day for the last 2 weeks, and didn't even miss a feeding! I left Aidan with Isaac or Marie and left plenty of breast milk in the freezer, but he always seems to wait for me! He doesn't mind having a bottle though, which is nice.
  • Lost 20 pounds, but lots more to go...
  • Knit about 1/3 of his Christmas stocking. Got about 6 more weeks to finish it.

Smiling up at me.

More Skin to Skin Time

Isaac loves holding Aidan on his chest with just a diaper on! I think Aidan likes it too! It's amazing how well he can hold up his big head with such a little neck.

My Growing Boy

Here are some photos from this morning - it's Aidan's 1 Month Birthday! He looked perfect at his check-up today.

The Longmont Dairyist

At one month Aidan is up to 8lbs 15oz. More than 2+ pounds in the first month!
