Walking on the Beach

It was so exciting that AJ learned to walk last week while we were on vacation. It was amazing seeing him take his first steps, and it couldn't have been better timing - Isaac and I were both there for it and we got to see him progress so quickly over the next few days.

Aidan likes to keep both hands up high when he walks! Here are some photos of his second day of walking.

His current record is about 12 steps in a row, but he's figuring out how to stop and balance and start again. Last night he kept practicing from me to the Octopus and back, it was just so cute.

Emerald Isle 2009

Here's the official North Carolina Beach Trip Family Photo:

Unfortunately, we're missing Chip and Marie since they were taking Jacob to college in Ohio, and Jesse and Anthony, Mira, Leah, and Zoe couldn't make it this year, but it's still a pretty good-sized group - 30 people! Cathy, Jason, and Collin made it to the beach a little later.

Beach Baby

First thing Aidan did was toss some sand in his face.

He also ate some.

And then he had some fun in the water.

Monkey boy!

First Steps!

AJ took his first steps today! He took 3 steps from me to Isaac after standing up for a while, then Isaac turned him around and he took 2 more before sitting down! Isaac had been hoping he'd be walking by the beach, but taking a few steps while we're here is great.

Aidan loved playing in the water and sand on the beach today. We're having a great time and we'll have lots of photos to post when we get back.

The trip down here was 100 times better than I thought it would be. The car ride really put Aidan to sleep, so he slept for at least half of the 14 hour drive, and was busy eating and playing for the rest of it. We were so happy he was such a trooper! Hopefully, the car ride back will be similar.

It's okay to be a follower!

I recently added the "Follower" section, but so far it's only Ma, Pa, and Theresa! Be brave, add yourself! I know we have lots of family and friends checking the blog frequently, I always love hearing "Oh, we feel like we know Aidan so well, even without seeing him." So, let us know you're reading.

For now, here's another cute photo from last week I hadn't put up yet. I don't have any from the last few days, been busy of course with work, house stuff, and getting ready for the beach.

I'm just finishing packing this morning, then tonight we're going to drive about 5 hours, and then do the remaining 7 or so tomorrow. Let's hope it's better than when we went to New York and Aidan had a double ear infection/burst drum, and screamed for ages!

Always Smiling

A quick outdoor shot of my little cutie from today:

It's the end of another fun weekend, but only one week and then vacation! We really didn't do that much, but still had a good time. We realized - happily - it's the last weekend in the apartment (we'll be traveling for the next two, then moving in). Aidan put up with a lot of scouting shopping at IKEA today, happily looking around at everything and everyone.

On Friday Aidan hung out with me and we played with some Play-Doh in his new lion travel chair.

I bought Isaac a new mailbox since he's been so excited that the new house will have a real mailbox instead of a community set. So, I surprised him on Friday with a personalized one, ready to install. Aidan thought it was pretty fun to put stuff in all weekend!

Last weekend we went to a house warming party and a lot of people were playing Bago - so we let Aidan play with the mini set. He was great at getting the bean bags in, he showed us how easy it was if you just stood right next to it! Thanks to Morgan for the cute picture.

Since we've been accused of only posting smiley pictures, here's a face that lasted about 3 seconds after Isaac took the rock out of Aidan's hand that he was trying to eat... :-)

But seriously, he really does smile all the time, not just in the photos! We never go out without someone commenting on his smile or his big blue eyes.

Aidan enjoys Rachel's laundry basket rides!

And he thinks it's funny when she drinks from a bottle!

Aidan @ Ten Months

Aidan really changed over the last month! He's looking much bigger and older, has figured out a ton, and eats much more real food.

At 10 months, Aidan:
- Loves to wave - it's the cutest wave - straight out, nice and high!
- Pushes his walker by himself
- Learned to clap
- Just went through a growth spurt where he started eating almost double the solid food he used to eat!
- Figures out how to open things and get into things and climb onto things
- Remembers where things are that we don't want him to play with
- Has 6 teeth
- Knows what "no" means and doesn't like it!

Some waving and walking photos from tonight in his pj's:

And a photo from Leigh from the weekend:

Splashing Around

AJ got really into bath time tonight, so I couldn't help but call Isaac in so I could grab the camera!

Big Changes for a Little Boy

All of a sudden, Aidan seems much older! In the last week or two, he has made some huge developmental strides. It's a lot of fun to watch him work things out, like how to rotate a toy to get it through something, or how to open cabinets and drawers. He'll crawl over to your ankles and reach up to get picked up or put up his hands to get help walking. He's also more determined to have what he wants - he gets upset if we take something away from him and definitely knows what "no" means. Normally he'll stop and look at me, then maybe try again and see if I still say "no", stop again, and try one more time.

Not only is he figuring out more things, he's also finally eating a lot more than basic pureed baby food, and we're all loving it. He's a big fan of cheese, yogurt, cheerios, crackers, and peaches right now, and he's getting really good at feeding himself finger food.

Summer Fun

After it rained for all of June and most of July, we're finally getting some actual summer weather and having lots of fun. We've been swimming at the pool 2-3 times a week, and AJ loves it now that it's warmer. Carmen and Rachel will come over and swim for hours!

Working on one-handed walking.

Aidan got to wear one of Isaac's outfits (see below).

Rachel absolutely loves Aidan - she's great at playing with him and helping with him!

Aidan spent ages playing with the Lego box on Saturday night. I definitely know what he's getting for his 1st birthday.

Apparently, Isaac thought it would be a great idea to jump in the bathtub with his clothes on :-) Same outfit AJ wore this weekend!

Playing around

Finally some more AJ photos! I didn't get a chance to do my usual Friday blog as I was busy baby-sitting a few extra kids yesterday. Although, it's more like they're here helping baby-sit Aidan; they love playing with him and he loves having extra company.

Today has been a little quieter, Isaac let me sleep in a bit, then we went for a run, went to the grocery store, and have been playing inside. But, it's a beautiful day and we're going to the pool again soon!

Onto the photos... Lots of them!

Aidan loves knocking over his new tower.

And he likes to reach out and wave now too!

Oh, I see two monkeys!! I'm going to get them!
(Yes, we starting integrating the second travel monkey, who we call "White Monkey" since he's so clean, so that we won't have any traumatic experiences if one is missing).

Almost there...

Got 'em both!

Another cute smile for another tower to knock over.

On its way down from the ledge on the house.

The tower pulls apart and makes 5 different balls too! They're great for chasing around the apartment and banging together, they make an awesome loud noise. And, they all nestle inside each other too. It's one of those really cool, really useful, really simple toys. Definitely a good $6 spent at Target.
